Head First EJB, in my opinion, is one of the best books on the subject. It not only focusses on the topics required for the exam but also serves as an excellent beginners guide to EJB. As far as I know, the exam questions mostly test your understanding of the concepts than typical what-will-be-the-output-of-this-program type of questions. EJB is a vast and dry subject and I think HF EJB convincingly explains the details of it. Most of us have found HF EJB fun to read - the graphics, diagrams and casual conversation style of writing helps assimilating the concepts fairly easy. If you are more of a hands-on type of guy, you may have to look else where. But as far I know, other EJB books are more theorical than HF EJB and I'm sure you will come back to HF EJB. So keep your momentum going and you will be able appreciate the worthiness of the book and EJBs.

Hi Deepa,

I remember your name from SCWCD forum. I think we passed it at the same time and hopped to BCD after that.

Well, I too am in somewhat a similar situation. The mistake I made was that I didn't go through all exercises and after a few chapters even didnt do coffee crams (as i was not faring well in them anyways).

Then went on to MZaikins notes ... did all this w/0 any questions etc. That was my mistake, went back to coffee crams and couldnt remember what i had learnt. Now, i am going through the book again, but, alongside will take notes for myself. Hope to be ready in another week.

All the best, h0pe this helps,

Raj

Yes all the posts that I posted yesterday are deleted. There is some problem . Anyways wrote that H&F and specs(EJB 2.0) are sufficient for SCBCD.

cheers.

Hi Deepa

When I was studying HFEJB, I made my own notes, in my own words. I found that writing notes down in my own words helps me to remember. coffee cram exams and sharpen pencil questions helps a lot, so don't skip them. If you need a break for a change, try questions in www.ejbcertificate.com as well.

Here is how I prepared for the exam.
1. First read a chapter in HFEJB, and took notes in my own words.
2. Did all the sharpen pencil questions, and coffee cram exam for that chapter.
3. Then went to ejbcertificate.com and did questions of that particular chapter.
4. Then carried on to the next chapter, and repeated steps 1-3.

I hope this will help.

Hi All,

My reply was ...
I went through HF EJB a bit slowly but didnt actually grasp everything in it. Also, unlike HFSJ SYP answers were not int he book. After a few chapters I found I was not scoring that well in the coffee crams and (my mistake) for further chapters didnt even attempt coffee crams.

This way I ended up reading the book, but not grasping as much as I could. Then jumpted to MZaikins notes and finished them although at the time of reading I understood everythign, didnt keep it in the mind though, so when started giving coffee crams, i got the same result 40% 55% etc. So, I postponed the exam which was in 2 days time. I think one should go through coffe crams and SYPencils alongside and clearly understand and try to remember concepts rather than just trying to finish reading.

Anyways, I know that HFEJB is a superb book .. .and MZ notes are quite descriptive and good as well. Its only my study technique which went wrong. Anyways its just been a month when I started preparing (after my SCWCD on 21/03) so I have not lost too much time. Will soon be back on the saddle and speeding up. Now, have taken a bit of a break and watched a few Bollywood flicks.

Sorry, guys for this descriptive (maybe not useful) message. But, I think some of you can relate to it.

Regards,

Raj

I would suggest that you should try out some ejb programs paralelly when you go through the book, so that you will get a lot of confidence, (provided you have time to do these).

Hi All,

I think the best way is to read through HFEJB do all the mocks and coffee crams. After that stop it for 1 week and make a simple application using EJB2.0 and WITHOUT referencing any EJB book. It doesnt matter if you are able to make one or not but this exercise will help you understand your week points very well.

After all EJB is for serious enterprise applications so its better if we read it from a persepctive of real life development.
