what's "staic class"?

can some body please tell what a "static class" is.

I know "static method" is a method which can be accessed without creating an instance of the class that has that static method, but I don't understand what this static class is.

The only things I could think of that could be called a 'static class' would be a static variable, or the Class of an object.
