Why is this bulletin board written in cgi while other parts of the site is in jsp? ( I suppose lots of people have asked this qn)
Just wondering how will java app measure up for high load, high volume database activities website such as this.
Or is this simply a cost related decision.. Off the shelf solution.

I guess it is because it was the best available software for the job.

Sorry, but I don't think this is a "high load, high volume database activities website". There are probably many orders of magnitude between JavaRanch and - say Google, in both page access and data volumne, for example...

It was created when there was zero, none, null JSP discussion software available (I know cos I was looking around at the time). Availablity was the issue, not performance. JSP is a much newer technology than Perl/CGI.

I've seen so many PHP, or CGI bbs being deployed, but not one with JSP yet.
Does anyone knows any live JSP BBS?

I'm moving this to the JavaRanch forum (I wonder why I didn't do this before).

Screaming fools! It's nothing more than a tiny ad:
