If 2 entity beans participate in a uni-directional relationship, the entity bean which is not referenced by the other need not expose local interfaces as it is not a CMR field in the other bean. Is my understanding right? Just wanted to confirm with you guys.

Correct.

EJB 2.0 specification 10.3.2 The entity bean provider´┐Żs view of persistent relationships
Page 131:

An entity bean that does not have a local interface can have only unidirectional relationships from itself to other entity beans. The lack of a local interface prevents other entity beans from having a relationship to it.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
