Does anyone know when/if the version 1.4 of SCBCD exam is going to available soon? Is there any Sun website/email that answers this?

I've taken the SCJP5.0 exam and am interested in taking the EJB exam, but am more inclined at the next version 1.4 exam rather than the current 1.3 version.

I strongly suspect, based on comments made previously, that a revised SCBCD covering Java EE 5 will be out in beta in the fall, followed by a winter regular release. I haven't seen anything regarding a J2EE 1.4 release of the exam.

The 1.3 is certainly still worth taking, I'd think, if you're looking to show ability with EJB's. Just because it's not the latest and greatest doesn't mean it's worthless in the marketplace.

I have only recently started preparing for the SCBCD exam, so I guess I will hold on n wait till the newer version of the exam is available.

However that leads me to the second question- the Sun voucher that I posess is valid till for booking before the end of July this year. Is it possible to book at prometric the 1.3 SCBCD exam and then change it to a newer version of the exam when it becomes available??

http://www.prometric.com/uk is what I used to complete my SCJP5.0 exam booking.

Well, the voucher says what it means - you need to book your exam by the end of July, then. I believe (not that I work for Prometric) that once you book for an exam, you're committed to take that exam, even if you then postpone the date. So, the answer would likely be 'no'.

Not to encourage you one way or the other, but as a previous responder stated it will likely be the end of the year before the new exam is out. I have seen several posts by people in the know which stated that that would be the absolute earliest. Which means it could be delayed until next year.

My strategy is to sit for the current SCBCD exam at the end of July or beginning of August. Then, once the new exam version is released, I will upgrade at my leisure after which I'll be certified in both versions.
Same scenario for SCWCD and SCJP (although I haven't yet taken the SCJP 5.0 upgrade exam).

My experience is by the time the beta exam has concluded, the first round of kinks for the real exam have been worked out and good study material hits the market, the next exam is potentially looming on the horizon. I faced this decision when I did the SCJP last Nov. I decided to take the 1.4 over the 5.0 based on the amount of study material available to me. I have not regretted the decision since. I have passed the SCWCD since and have scheduled my SCBCD for 7/31. I want to go to SCDJWS and then to SCEA. I feel by not waiting, the next set of exams will be coming out as I am updating my SCJP to 5.0 and I will have a better understanding for haing gone through the previous iteration. I also work in a big environment and we currently run SE 1.4.2 and are in the process of upgrading our EE environments to EE 1.4 (WAS v6). I think that I am learning 1.3/1.4 at the right time and will be slightly ahead of the curve on the next time through.

Guess the troublesome part is that an upgrade exam is ALSO AN, and does need studying scheduling, revising, and also- Money.

More than that for me, any exam I guess eats up about 6-8 weeks of quality social time; and lots of sleepless late nites. I would rather wait for the newer version if I knew for certain the date it was coming than take the current 1.3 version exam and then plan the upgrade in another few months.

(I know I sound lazy here taking multiple exams!)
Will really appreciate if one of the co-test producers read this thread and provide any insight?
