Hello All,
Recently I have seen one thread in SCJP forum related to SCJP 1.4 v/s SCJP 5.0 exam. I would like to start a similar thread for these to SCBCD exams? Please let me know your opinions.
Which exam one should appear looking at the current and future market trends, the one based on EJB 2.0 or EJB 3.0.

Factors in favour of older SCBCD(2.0)
i) J2EE1.3 and EJB2.0 are established in the market
ii) these are not going to be replaced too soon.
iii) More resources in terms of mock exams, books, online material etc are available for preparation
iv) HF EJB is available for this. Believe me, I consider this as big advantage because someone like me who is having little experience in EJB can read this book and grasp the contents soon.
v) Even when companies will migrate from 2.0 to 3.0 they will need someone who knows 2.0 to do that job.

Factors in favor of New SCBCD(3.0)
i) Some day or other 3.0 is going to catch up and will be in great demand.
ii) New concepts like JPA are worth learning
iii) Beta exam is free
iv) Learning for 2.0 and then upgrading to 3.0 is not that easy. Either you have to prepare for 2.0 or fully for 3.0. Many concepts are new in 3.0 so if you want to have knowledge on new technology you got to prepare for this exam.

Just let me know your preferences on this. Please site the reason when you prefer one exam over other. Please don't keep just beta exam for 3.0 in mind. This should guide someone who want to prepare for 3.0 exam free or paid.

Regards,
Paras

hello,

the beta tests are over, but SCBCD 5.0 will be available soon, so it is an option.

I do not agree that EJB 2.x were established very well. The specification was problematic, and those problems have been solved in EJB 3.0.

Besides SCBCD 5.0 includes a lot about JPA, and that is a very useful API even without EJB, for example with Hibernate in a J2SE client application.

The listed arguments for both sides are good; just adding this as advantages of SCBCD 5.0.
