Hi,

I passed the SCBCD 5 exam on 3-12-2008. I have passed the exam with a score of 86%. It took me around 6 months to prepare for the exam (4 to 8 hours a week). I had no hands-on experience with EJB 3. I have experience with EJB 2.1, but only with the Session Bean part (not Entity beans). I used the tutorial made by Mikalai Zaikin (http://java.boot.by/scbcd5-guide/). You have to use this, if you ask me. Furthermore I used the Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 book, 5th Editition from OReilly. You should use this before you start with the tutorial of Mikalai. I also read The Java EE5 Tutorial, Third Edition. I did all the examples in both tutorials and book. Last but very important I order the ePractice exams from SUN. It gave me a really good idea for my exam readiness and on parts on which I could improve. The exam itself was quite hard. I was happy that I prepared myself so well.

So good luck with preparing for your exam. Special thanks from my part for Mikalai Zaikin. Without you I could not done it. Keep up the good work.

Greets,

Marinus

Ps. I created a PDF file from the tutorial made by Mikalai Zaikin. If you are interested, just reply on this post and give me your mail address.

Hello Marinus,

Congrats on clearing the exam with such a nice percentage..
I am also preparing for this exam..
Did you read the "Pro EJB 3" for Persistence? Or is it suffecient to just read the O'reilly book for the same?
Did you try running each and every example? I mean you cleared the exam based on just theoretical knowlegde or you did practical work also?

thanks,
mallika

Hi Mallika,

I am not sure what you mean with Pro EJB 3. But I didnt read the SUN Persistence API specification and no other books/tutorials then mentioned. But the Oreilly book and tutorials where enough for me.

I only compiled/deployed/run the given sources from the tutorials. So I didnt do the examples by myself. I just past on theoretical knowledge.

Greets,

Marinus

Congrats Marinus !!!
Great score.

I would like to order the ePractice exams too but I can't find what it contains. In the Sun Training Catalog, it is said "Duration: 4 hours".
Is it a list of questions ? a desktop application ? an access to the Sun Web Site ?

Thanks

Benot

Hi,

I had two questions about the ePractice exam. It is quite simple. It exist out of two exams which are exactly the same as the real exam, so with 61 questions. You can access the practice exams online, and retry them as often as you want. You can also see to which objective a question belongs, and why a certain answer is correct and why the others are wrong. Furthermore it also points out where to find the answers in the specs.

Hope this is want you wanted to know.

Kind regards,

Marinus

Hi,

About the annotations question. I didn't face any questions about annotations. See the objectives on http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-091.xml. I do not know the books you mention, so I can't answer that question. See begin of post what I used as learning material.

Kind regards,

Marinus
