Hi all

Please tell me any two books from below list that are highly recommended for SCBCD 5.0

1- Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 (5th Edition)
2- Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0
3- Pro EJB 3: Java Persistence API (Pro)
4- EJB 3 in Action

Thanks

I'd pick up 1,2 and 4. I'll start with 4, then use 2 for persistence and 1 for the rest.

IMHO:

1 - Is a MUST

4 - I heard that it is close to Head First style

Hi,

EJB 3 in Action is not exactly Head First Style. It is not exam oriented, but it is good introductory book. To clear the fundamentals this book is really good.

Thanks

Mikalai,

When you say 1, are you referring O'reilly. Let me know.

As far as the SCBCD 5 exam is concerned, do we need to refer Pro EJB 3: Java Persistence API (Pro) for Persistence. Is it not sufficient if we just read O'reilly? Is Persistence not covered in O'reilly? Let me know.

The Pro EJB 3 covers Java Persistence in a greater detail. So better grab a copy of it and start your preparation on Entities.

Hi All

I have just completed SCWCD and have started getting books for SCBCD.
Can you please let me know whether
a.) Pro EJB 3: Java Persistence API (Pro) and
b.) Head First EJB..

alone will help me getting through SCBCD

Waiting for your reply...

I agree with MZ. I used the Oreilly EJB 3 book for the exam. But I heard EJB 3 In Action is a very good introductory book to EJB 3. (which is probably why MZ said it's close to HF style)

I only used the Oreilly book and got good marks in persistence. The Oreilly book has several chapters devoted to JPA. But it might be worth noting that I have a little background with Hibernate so that probably helped also.

I heard that head first ejb is dated and it's not for ejb 3.0

I guess ejbcore specs and persistence specs(along with the books) are very very important to score high marks in SCBCD 5...

Friends,

It seems we won't have a new release of Head First EJB for a while.

---------------

Hi pcresta-

Unfortunately, there's not a new release of Head First EJB planned. It's something we want - which is why Chris saw it in our internal databases - but not something we've been able to find authors for.
Because EJB 3.0 changed so drastically from EJB 2.0, it's not as much a revision as, in many respects, an entirely new book. And Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra have become too busy with several other projects (including the recently-released Head First Servlets, 2nd edition) to invest the time into a new edition of EJB.
All that said, we are actively looking for EJB authors, and it's a book that we'd like very much to sign. I know that's not a terribly exciting or encouraging answer, but I wanted to be up-front.
And anyone out there dying to get into the Head First family, EJB would be a great title to propose and audition for! Check out the Write For Us link at http://www.headfirstlabs.com.

Thanks
Brett McLaughlin
Series Editor, Head First

Hi, everyone!

Taking a lift to this topic...
I've got a copy of Head First EJB in my hands.
Do you think it is enough to study for taking the SCBCD exam?

Best wishes,

Renato

For SCBCD5 ? You won't pass. You need another book aimed at EJB3.0, like those recommended above.

Great news!

If you're thinking of buying the Pro EJB 3 book, then try visiting the Apress daily deal site NOW and you can get it for just $10 (only within the 24-hour period).

More details here.

Usually I prefer O'Reilly books, and don't like In Action series of books. Apress has also a lot of very good books.

hey guys. for SCBCD 5.0 the book enterprise javabeans 3.1 is useful or 3.0

http://www.amazon.com/Enterprise-JavaBeans-3-0-Ric...rd-Monson-Haefel/dp/059600978X Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0.
http://www.amazon.com/Enterprise-JavaBeans-3-1-And...pd_vtp_b_2/175-3204604-4176840 Enterprise JavaBeans 3.1.

the Version of 3.1 works for SCBCD 5.0 or the version Using 3.0 is best suited for the exam. thanks a lot..
