I had started preparing for EJB exam and came to know exam for EJB2 is discontinued. And currently EJB3 is tested.

But even EJB3 release is of 2006. So very soon EJB4 or some higher version will come.

So I want to know when will next release of EJB come?
Till when giving exam of EJB3 is relevant? When will exam for EJB4 come?

So i many not start with EJB 3 and wait for EJB4 eaxm and its study material.

Kaushik, you seem to be a fellow who is still mighty excited by all this IT stuff. My advice: don't take it too seriously.

Learn J2EE, .NET, Spring, Hibernate, DJango or Ruby on Rails, and then go dine at an expensive restaurant with your wife, and forget about this forum.

I think what Anton Golovin said is right.

Do not forget there will always be a new version. EJB 3.0 has just started. I think ORM is getting its fair share now with Hibernate, EJB 3.0 & JPA.

You must prepare for an exam when you have time to spare. Of course we have to worry about relevance and EJB 3.0 is very much relevant in the current market.

Kaushik,

The time-frame for the EJB 3.1 specification is the first quarter on 2009. It's difficult to estimate accurately, but major vendors will probably implement EJB 3.1 in the second Quarter of 2010. EJB 4 work won't start until then. That means EJB 3 has a pretty long shelf-life.

As to the traction of Java EE itself, that's always a hard if not impossible question to answer given the velocity of the technology market. I would say this really depends on what technology appeals to you personally. It's impossible to know it all. However, it's pretty easy to keep up-to-date with very closely related technologies like EJB 3/Java EE and Spring/Hibernate. A cursory understanding of Ruby on Rails helps too. I would say it's impossible to know both Java and .NET well, so it's wise to choose between the two.

All that being said, given the sheer size of the Java EE market, I don't think you should be losing too many nights of sleep worrying about your job :-). As has been said, relax and take your wife out to dinner. The rest will take care of itself :-).

Regards,
Reza

Arun,

Thanks for the kind words on the book. I do plan on being more active online. The JCP EG work and non-stop speaking/writing has kept me busy for a while, but I am hoping to gradually spin things down a little to take a deep breath.

Cheers,
Reza

Thank you all for such quick responce and valuable advice.

I felt very honoured by getting reply from Reza Rahman , as this is the first time I ever had communaication with any author. So thanks once again !!

Just about your advice of going to Dinner with wife...It will still take some time as I am yet to marry...probably that day will coincide with arrival of EJB4 .
As of now I need a girl friend who can teach me EJB3 very fast
