scwcd only going thru books....

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi folks,
Let's start a debate only have n idea abt this exam! I know its possible to become n MCSE,MCDBA,MCSD only with going thru the books (i have some of my fellows)....now....
Do u think its possible to pass SCWCD without installing anything except jdk1.4 standard edition (not ecterprise edition)in ur machine. jdk1.4 bcz as only scjp 's can take this exam they must have passed that and i know it's impossible to pass that without installing (coding ) jdk or something like that in one's machine...
I'll say may be possible....but anyway comments plz....

tho i hav jus started wid my prep for SCWCD
i think <b>'paper SCWCD's</b> are possible !
and probability of finding 'paper SCWCD' is much much more than , finding 'paper SCJP' , which are difficult to find
waiting comments from experienced ppl

Yes, I'm a "paper SCWCD". No problem at all since now we have more notes/samples/mock exams.

Wang,
One of the differences between SCJP and SCWCD is that one needs to remember a lot of method names for SCWCD but not SCJP.
I am particularly interested in the methods for objective 1.4.
Could you or someone shed some light on this?
I like to know which methods I need to remember for object 1.4.
Thanks

The methods mentioned in Miftah's notes are enough. They look like a hell lot but believe me they are all important. The four common among them are the ones related to attributes. Instead of memorizing what I did was to read all of them twice and then establish their logic on the basis of Expert Pattern which says that an object has methods only for that data for which it has the required knowledge.

Peter,
I used Ken's notes and think it's enough.

I cleared this paper with two weeks' preparation.
I think you can do the same.
Just need to remember, more than 90% of the questions are from objective. Do not over-study.

Thnx all 4 ur opines!
Yah i knew that its possible. As i m going to understand and enjoy the exam....my plan is something else....
(1) Install J2EE,Tomcat and Java Web Server.
(2) Read chapter by chapter some popular books(i have targetted 4).
(3) Develope a web site of my own using servlet & jsp and host it freely.
(4) Preparing some study notes along with servlet and jsp specification.
(5) Give some mocks and appear the exam within this year!
(6) Regularly post the problems i face in javaranch and get them solved by u folks...(u may have free drinks from here at my cost )
I have just started step 1 & 2. So wish me dear friends....

First congrats Raj to win SCWCD@Whiz this week along with me, Madhav and Poonam. I'll suggest the tutorial with it as a good guide 4 us....
Abt the my 4 books -----
(1) I started with CallAway's book "INSIDE SERVLETS" as i am a novice in this area. I suggest this book as a good starter.
(2) I m also using "Developing Java Servlets" but suggest it only to those who wanna use JAVA WEB SERVER and/or JRUN. I think we all should at least try a while JAVA WEB SERVER which is entirely developed by JAVA from SUN. But i don't suggest this book to those who r in a little hurry or want to pass quickly. This book is also intended 4 beginners.
(3) I stringly suggest all SCWCD-aspirants to go thru "JAVA SERVLET PROGRAMMING" by JASON HUNTER from O'Reilly. It's classic and should not be skipped.....as far as i know its rea as text book in many universities. I specially recommend to use the second edition not the first one as the 1st edition contains bacldated specs....
(4)"Professional JSP" by Wrox is the last one in my list. I think we should go thru all the exam specific related chapters of this book and should also read at last.....
But never to forget abt 4 other things -----
(i) Java Servlets & JSP specifications from SUN
(ii) SUN'S J2EE TUTORIAL on DESIGN PATTERN
(iii) Hands on coding
(iv) All the few mocks avalbl now.
I should not conclude without quoting a book from Wrox "PROFESSIONAL JAVA SERVER PROGRAMMING VOLUME I & II". This is the book i have targetted to complete after finishing my SCWCD exam and during my real-life project works....It almost covers all the necessary topics and will make u a JAVA GURU if u can understand all the topics here....
Hope u'll correct me if my choices have some BUGs to accept them as a guideleine.....

Dear friends i have changed my mind after getting the book Core Servlets and JSP from a street. Its a very good starter book for those who are new to Servlets and Jsp. The drawback is that its updated upto servlet2.2 and jsp1.2 specs---but u can get very few books so far updated upto 2.2/1.1. You will also get the supporting codes and chapters in http://www.coreservlets.com/ . So i would like to replace number 1 & 2 from my books list in favor of Core Servlets and JSP.
Another fact is that those who wanna pass first and learn second --- can find this book suitable to finish quickly, and then all the notes(Ken,Miftah,Rachell,Vel etc... )and mock exams will be sufficient to pass i think.
Expecting some other opines....

Jason Hunter's book is so standard that then i have decided also to go with Java Server Pages of O'Reilly. Its not bad.... ...and for design pattern, actually Sun's tutorial is not enough, i saw a book Design Patterns of Pearson publication in my local market and will check today whether i would buy it or not... ...
Have good preparation all SCWCD aspirants!
