I am aware of servlets and jsp's but am not an expert. I am really not sure how and where listeners fit in to the servlet/jsp architecure and is this something new in the latest releases. How important is this topic on the scjwcd exam. Also appreciate if anyone can provide links with examples.
Thanks

Listeners covered a fair portion of my exam. You probably could pass without knowing anything about them but, you'd have to be near perfect on everything else.
As far as Links, there are a couple on the Links Page

... and of course there's the Servlet Life Cycle section of the J2EE Tutorial: http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/doc/Servlets4.html#63081
There's not a lot to them really, they're just hooks so that you can react to creation/destruction of servlet context or session, and the creation, modification, or removal of attributes in context or session. They're new in the 2.3 Servlet spec.
