Hello, I am about to start on the trail towards SCWCD. At hand I have the following materials: JSP Specification from Sun, Servlet Specification from Sun, Ken Zroboks notes, J2EE 1.3 Specification from Sun, JavaServer Pages by Hans Bergsten Tomcat 4.0.1 installed and running successfully on SuSe Linux 7.3. Ive just passed my SCJP and I have next to no experience on JSP/Servlets, although I do have experience in similar technologies (ASP,PHP). The material Ive listed above is quite large, and I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend where I should start. Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark, First of all you need a J2EE-WebComponents Server: Tomcat is the Sun reference implementation. It is easy to install. Just follow these instructions: http://javaboutique.internet.com/tutorials/Tomcat/ If you encounter problems search messages in the Tomcat forum of Javaranch. You get it here: http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-tomcat-4.0/release/v4.0.1/bin/ (first and biggest exe file, if you use Windows)- The favorite book of most people here is: More Servlets and JavaServerPages by Marty Hall. It covers the latests specs (need them for exam). You can get all chapters of an older version of that book for free as pdf. http://pdf.coreservlets.com/ I use Professional Java Server Pages 2nd edition by Wrox (covers the latest specs, too). Good luck, Axel [ January 21, 2002: Message edited by: Axel Janssen ]
