Hi Guys,
After taking the exam with 78%

, i want to share my opinions with you.
First let me tell you about my prep.
I am actually in the path of architect exam which i completed paper I with 87% on december 27th. Before going for the part II and III of the eam i wanted to go for SCWCD exam so that, i can brush up my knowledge about the web content stuff and thats the reason why i gave the following period of time for prep.
I spent 17 days preparing for the exam, which included 4 weekend days * 8 hours + 13 days * 2 hours of prep.
Books Covered:
JSP by Wrox - cover to cover
More Servlets and JSP - cover to cover
Javaranch Resources Used:
Servlet Deployment Descriptor DTD
JSP Syntax Card
Sun JSP Custom tag tutorial
Ken Zrobok notes
Java Ranch's own mock exam - pretty easy
Edurado Cobin's Test - Pretty good learning stuff
Mikas Mock exam - Good stuff
Anand Chawla's Exam - hmmmm good job by anand, but i scored more than what i scored in SCWCD original exam.
Then the best resource is SCWCD forum discussions which helped me a lot!
Then, the most important thing i ralized while taking this exam was that, you need to be pretty sure about the nitty gritty things syntax, return vlaues, deployment descriptors etc. At one point of time i was like, *Gosh, i am going to fail the exam*

But i made it out

My experience:
Got lots of various experience with variious technologies of j2ee. well,i would say JACK OF ALL TRADES, MASTER OF NONE

. But coming to servlets and jsp's i didn't very little work and even for the exam prep, i didn't really use any appserver to do the practicing stuff, as i was pretty confident about working with appservers and i actually wanted to rush as fast as possible.(which i really don't recommnd for a serious SCWCD exam taker).
Finally one thing i would recommend is:
2(max 3) months of preparation accompanied by implementing and teting various features of exam objectives, will be the optimum time period. If its more time then, you will get bored(unless you like hanging arround this

forum), if its less, you will be

like me during the exam.
Well, guys its time to go for the next exams:
IBM 483 IBM486 and Architect II and III exams. Will keep in touch with you guys. I have seen a very lively discussion over here.

Please give some tips about security and is there any way you'd suggesst to learn those nitty gritty return values....i guess only coding or common sense???

Hi Faiza, i got 4 questions on design patterns. I would say, the questions asked in SCWCD are rather confusing. They were better in SCEA-I. You can find the below design patterns link very useful http://www.patterndepot.com/put/8/JavaPatterns.htm
This is a java version of GOF patterns. These are first and formost identified and documented design patterns. And they will give you a better outlook about patterns. Don't pull your hair too much about design patterns.

Congrats Ram Dhan! And u were never supposed to fail...after all cleared SCJA part-1 man...

Any advice on how should we start preparing for SCJA? I think Architect forum will be the primary resource....and anything from u?

Ashik,
well, architect certification is very much different from the SCWCD exam. You need to know the concepts, you don't need to know how to code. But its really a very good learnnig curve and exposes to lots of scenarios. Part I is just a small step and the big challenge is Part II and III. What i can suggest is to fix for yourself a date when you are going to take the exam even before you start a serious preparataion and work on that i.e some thing like setting a target of version release.

Ram, how do you compare IBM 483 with Java Architect? Which is more worthy of taking? Which is tougher?

This is to let you all know that i did pass IBM-483 exam today with 77%, one percent more than SCWCD

486 seems a very difficult one. GOOD LUCK.
Have a question:
483 (Enterprise Conectivity) seems to me something like 488 (WebSphere Specialist) without WebSphere. There were lots of EJB questions in 488 sample test. Is 483 so much about beans, too?
Is 483 "easier" than 488? Then I will take 483. Need just an IBM certification and don't want to do to much cert in too short time (not a problem for you, it seems

).

I am not sure about 488. But 483 is not specific to any appserver. Its general J2EE concepts. But its tougher than SCJA-I and needs more attention to detail while studying your stuff.
its not whether its easy or not, i am running out of time and i have to rush clearing the exams!

Here are my 2 cents for your 486 exam.
try to concentrate more on IBM sample test and follow the larmen book. You can clear the test more comfortable if you read the notes of the larman book. (I cleared the test(78%) with 14 days prep. with these two resources and the discussion forum in this site).
