Cleared SCWCD with 89%

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hello Dear Ranchers,
I cleared the exam today with 89% .I am quite happy with my score.I have lots of things to tell u guys.

First of all the study material which i used and found useful.I prepared for exactly one month and studied at an avg of 5 hrs per day.

1)Java Server Programming vol 1 (Very Good, not the latest edition though)Referred the relevant chapters and found it extremly good.It is advisable to try out all the code examples.

2)Servlets and JSP specs (Good)
I went through the Servlets specs. It is very well written. The same cannot be said about the JSP specs.I would advise you guys to go through the specs religiously,I realised the importance of this while taking the exam.

3)Ken's notes and Miftah khan's notes (Excellent)
Very well documented study material.I would advise you guys to go through these
notes religiously. Also try out the code examples wherever possible.

4)Jsp 1.2 syntax card (Useful).
Quite useful for last minute preparations.

Also,I would to mention that SUN has a course ware for this certification which is
supposed to be extremely good. One of my friend went through this book for 3 days and cleared the
exam.I couldn't get this book, but i reckon that this book is very good for the certification
probably the best around!!

About the exam
The exam is definitely more difficult than any other mock exam.I am not trying to scare
you guys off!!.The point i am trying to make is that, none of these exams stick to the
exam objectives like the real one does.SO IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU KNOW WHAT
EACH AND EVERY OBEJCTIVE MEANS AND WHAT IT EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW.
Sincerely this is the biggest tip i can give you.Of course i am not taking the credit
away from the mock exams. They are the ones that give you the feel of the real exam.
Moreover about 20% of the questions are similiar to the mock exam questions. So give a lot
of importance to them also.
I used only SCWCD@WHIZ and other free exams available.I couldn't buy JWEBPLUS.
I scored consistently around 80% mark in all the exams, except the Cobain's test !!

I got a survey of 9 questions before the exam, which was an evaluation of your skills
on servlets, jsp and design patterns,I have a vague feeling this could be a determining
factor on the type of questions.I could be wrong though!!.Any way i would like to tell
you guys not to worry about this.Do not worry about it at all!!.

Once i started the exam the first few questions really hit me hard.I thought this could
get a lot worse. But things slowly started to get better.
After the first pass of 59 questions i found that i had marked about
20 odd questions which i was not really sure off. Some of the questions were really
ambiguos. In the second pass i was able to answer around 15 questions with some difficulty.
The rest of the questions about 5-7 of them were ambiguos.I used the elimination method
to eliminate the improbable ones and narrowed in on the correct answers.
Still i managed to get 6 questions wrong.(53/59).
At the same time some of the questions were quite easy.I used all my quota of 90
minutes. So don't give up,if you face the same situation.Plough your self through
and i assure you that you will make it.

Overall,i would like to tell you guys this..
The exam is not difficult but at the same time not easy either.
if you are trying for a high score then a lot of preparation is requried.
If you would just want to clear the exam,it can be done without much fuss.
(Say a month with 2-3 hrs of sincere study is enough).
I don's think that any one can fail in this exam ,especially if you hang around this forum
for sometime. So it is really a matter of whether you want to just clearing the exam or
you want to clear it with a high score.Frankly, the question of failing does not appear at all,
unless the preparation was bad.Frankly i would tell you guys to aim high.
'Cos it is very much POSSIBLE to get a good score.

I would also like to add that without you guys i would have found it a lot difficult.
I really learnt a lot from here. Thanks to Satya,Carl,Erser and all fellow ranchers
for the wonderful explanations, code samples and discussions,Thanks to Ijlal for his very encouraging
post(Thanks man,i owe you one for that..Will return the favour some day )
Will definetly hang around this forum to help you guys in any possible way.

All the best u guys..

Click on the links at the top of this page, and you will see it listed there with links to everyone's notes. everyone meaning those that were very cool enough to make them for us to use.

Manjunath - did you see any question on Filters and/or Servlet chaining?

congrats Manjunath.

Congrats Manjunath and good luck with your next cert. Were there any questions relating to Servlet 2.3/JSP 1.2?
+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hello All,
Ajith : No,There were no questions on filters and servlet chaining.I don't think servlet
chaining questions are asked. But questions on filters might be encountered by the exam takers..
Marlon : The exam is built around the servlet2.3
and jsp1.2 specs..
