I want to start my SCWCD and have a few questions
Welcome to the forum.
Where do I find the objectives?
You can find the links to this on the Javaranch SCWCD links page.
What books do I need?
Again try the Javaranch SCWCD links page. At the end you can find the suggested reading. In addition the more recently published books More Servlets and JSP and Prof. Java Servlets 2.3 are valuable additions.
Where can I find the Specifications?
Try the Javaranch SCWCD links page. You can find the links to the specifications.
What mock exams are available?
Try the Javaranch SCWCD links page. You can find the mock exams also listed.
Where do I download Ken's notes, Michell's notes and Miftak Kahn's notes?
Try the Javaranch SCWCD links page. Links to all these are available here.
Where can I find Tomcat?
Links to Tomcat are available on the Javaranch SCWCD links page.
Can you give the links for the Servlet and JSP API that we need for the exam?
This is a link to the API as specified by Tomcat.
How many days of preperation do I need?
There is no magic formula (atleast we haven't invented it yet) to find the number of days needed for preperation. It depends on your skills and experience. You will be a better judge of this as you work your way towards the exam.
Who maintains the SCWCD Links page?
Send your many thanks to Carl Trusiak.
Do you think the FAQ will help?
Well, optimism is free and costs nothing, atleast so far.
What is the cost of the exam?
As of this writing it is $150.00 in US. Please check the objectives link and the Sun web pages to get the current rate. For people from other countries, please contact Sun Ed.
How do I get discounts?
We currently don't have any information on this. Please feel free to contact Sun Ed. and if you find out please let us know.
Why should I change my name?
Well, please check with the Javaranch guidelines on the naming policy.
I don't like your naming policy. What can I do about it?
Just go to the Javaranch forum and howl. Someone more appropriate will whip you......
What about other Servlet and JSP questions?
There are other forums discussing Servlets and JSP's.
I just don't feel like studying today. Do you have a forum for that too?
Yup, we do support those days when you want to be far away from Java. Check out this forum, where it is anything but Java for the most part.
What else do I need for the SCWCD?
A lot of hard work and participation in this forum and a good night's sleep the night before your exam. Good luck.
Thanks.

Ah, finally
Thanks for taking this initiative. If I may suggest something, please try making this as a separate page just like SCJP page. This will ensure it is always accessible and does not get "lost" in the plethora of discussion threads.

Cheers!

At least one can link this thread, when someone comes and asks the "I am SCJP, how to start SCWCD"- question.

Here's one for your faq.
The Objectives don't say which version of the Servlet and JSP API's it covers, how do I know what version the is the exam based on?
Ojective 3 requires knowledge of Listeners which were introduced in Servlets 2.3 and JSP 1.2 is the related Jsp version.

I know we probably can't play favorites, but should you add a question on which commercial Mock is better JWeb Plus, or Whiz Labs product?
Thanks

Good job, Satya
Why not add a link to this post from the links at the top of the page where we have the links to the "Mock Exams" and "links"? You could either add "FAQ" to it or have a link to this post from the "Links" page.
Just a suggestion. Did'nt want this post to be lost later on.
Later,
Hema

The plan is to make this a seperate FAQ page.
Mark:
I don't think we can comment on a commercial software product. More so since they are always subject to upgrades and improvements.

Thanks Axel.
One of the things on my TO DO list is to make this into a FAQ page and link it. Haven't been too happy lately. Struggling to make time to do this.
<........Deep Breadth........> maybe I will just do it today, March 27, 2002. Thanks.
- satya
ps:
ofcourse, even though its on the link page we know that we must still point people to that. There will always be someone who asks "Where do I start?" or "Am I ready for the exam?".....that's reality.

Sorry if someone's already mentioned this before, but I'm just starting to study for my SCWCD... I found that Marty Hall put his excellent book Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages online! He also has excerpts of More Servlets and JavaServer Pages online, too! I've been reading them on there while waiting for my hard copies of his book...

Enjoy!
