Dear Ranchers,
Correct me if Im wrong - Tag libraries are created to remove java code from Java Server Pages and simplify scripting to implement beans. Sort of a Java solution that isnt really Java?

The way I understand these.....
Tag libraries are created
to introduce your own tags with special behavior (custom). Thus you are no longer restricted to the tags provided by HTML that you are using. This is a way to associate behavior based on some programmig logic to a tag.
to remove java code from Java Server Pages and simplify scripting to implement beans.
This I would guess is the purpose of JavaBeans.

Sort of a Java solution that isnt really Java?
Not sure what you meant by this.....Both JavaBeans and Custom Tags are Java solutions.
My two cents......

Hi,
I also think that the importance of Tag Libraries lie in the following.
1. REUSABLITY
2. Of-the-shelf components. Like you can buy a custom tag library from a third party vendor. This is similar to EJBs. That is why you can also specify event listeners in a TLD file. A tag Library is just like a component which you can use right away after buying it.
2. And also "Write once run anywhere" advantage.
