We disabled that just yesterday. We've been experiencing numerous server crashes lately due to excess load, and it seems that searches are a main culprit. As an experiment we have disabled the "search all forums" option to see how much effect that has, and hopefully to keep things running while we work on alternatives. We certainly do want to offer "all forum" searches in the future, but we don't yet know when we'll be able to resume them. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Gregg, If you do a google search using "JavaRanch Big Moose Saloon"+search criteria it is WAY faster anyway. You probably will have to click the link that says "repeat the search with the omitted results included" to get everything - but it is split second fast. Every night we feed the forums posts to Google for just such purposes. The posts are spit out as HTML for search engines and then when you select one it re-directs you to the actual UBB post.
