ATTLIST - ID Mechnism - Servlet Specs

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi Friends,
On Pg.113, the servlet specs says :

"The ID mechanism is to allow tools that produce deployment information (i.e., information beyond the standard deployment descriptor information) to store the non-standard information in a seprate file, and easily refer from these tools-specific files to the information in the standard deployment descriptor. Tools are not allowed to add the non-standard information into the standard deployment descriptor."
I fail to understand what are these non - standard information that needs to be stored in separate files and DD reads those files whenever it needs some 'non-standard' information. I think I have correctly made the point, if not pls correct me and if yes, pls. clarify to me what the above statements mean ? Thanks

I took it to mean that one could store information for integrated developing environments and other tools in these separate files which are outside the scope of the DD. So, there might be some information you want to convey to the user of the IDE/tool that the servler specification doesn't allow for in the DD. Does that make sense?
