I am very new to JSP tags. On trying to use some ready made tag library from the
www.jsptags.com site i got stuck in opening the following for use .
Can someone please tell me the steps in opening the following file formats :
xxxxxx.jar (Java Archive)
xxxxxx.war (Web Archive)
References are welcomed as well.Cheers.

You can use winzip, or lot of other packaging software.

Don't know that this is strictly certification stuff - but basically both .jars (Java ARchives) and .wars (Web ARchives) are just zip files which Java knows how to deal with. So if you do want to open them, just use Winzip (or whatever other zip utility you use). Or you can use Java's own command line utility - jar - with e.g. the invocation: jar xvf TagLibrary.jar ...
The benefit though of being "java aware" is that you ordinarily don't need to open them, if you just need to use the tags. The classloader will extract class files on demand from a jar, so you can just reference the .jar in your classpath.
A .war is a bit different: it's a entire zipped up web application, that the Application Server knows how to extract automatically when the application is deployed.
Back to certification: for the SCWCD, a .war has also to meet the following requirements:
* there should be a directory called WEB-INF (capitals!!!)
* WEB-INF must contain a file called web.xml (this is your deployment descriptor for servlets, etc).
* any classes referenced in the application must be deployed under WEB-INF/classes
Hope this helps
