The character encoding is what the JSP page uses for the response. The default character set is ISO-8859-1. Other character set Latin1, Latin2,..Latin6 (ISO-8859-1 - ISO-8859-6) There are tons of different browsers and mediums which one can deliver to, this means you need to make sure you have the right MIME type (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions). MIME types allow us to exchange different kinds of data files on the Internet. The default is text/html. The contentType can contain both MIME type and character set, whereas the character encoding takes only a character set. Hope this helps. -PP
