SCWCD, What's the worth ?

I would like to know from the SCWCDs, that what's the worth and benefit of doing SCWCD ?

I believe, the only "true worth" in obtaining the SCWCD is knowledge. Aside from that, being certified may impress upon employers that one has a rare or needed skill set. In that case, the certification may help to get a job, promotion or raise.

I agree with the above, but there's also value in the sorts of knowledge it forces you to get. On-the-job, it can be hard to justify learning more than just enough to get by. When learing for fun, I tend to ignore and avoid anything that isn't fun. Certifications are nice because some fairly well informed people have defined a block of knowledge that is somehow "complete", and they offer a certificate to help motivate me to learn the boring bits.

As far as the value of the SCWCD goes, for those of you debating whether or not to take it:
I would just say that in the last two weeks since I passed the exam and moved from studying back to actually coding servlets, I've really noticed how much better I know the libraries. I have a lot more tricks up my sleeve now for getting things done. :-) I'm glad I bothered.
