The book is good and the 2nd edition does cover some of the 2.3 spec (although it states draft version on the cover). I only picked this book up when I was really confused about some issues ie Form based security, distributable web app .. and it helped. Its an ideal reference if you are going to be programming servlets.
For JSP forget it! The books useless, I think Jason Hunter is well known for his dislike of the JSP programming model and it shows in his book 25 pages i think in total.
I recommend you buy the SCWD Exam Study Kit. It got all the answers you need!

I have no idea about this week's giveaway. But personally I would recommend Simon Brown's co-authored book - Professional Servlets 2.3 - for serious Servlet development. It does cover spec 2.3, and the organization of the whole book is great. You may read the sample chapters from www.simongbrown.com.
Happy reading.

Hunt's book is rated 10 here at Javaranch. I thought it would be a good one.
How does it compare to Marty Hall's "More Servlets.." book. I have his "Core Servlets.." book and I liked it alot, even it does not cover much. I hope "More Servlet.." will cover more.

That's right - a friend a I put together a BOF session to talk about and give advice on the certification process.
If I remember correctly, out of the 40ish people that turned up, about 20 were SCJP, 10 SCJD, 5 (possibly less) SCWCD and (I remember this clearly!) 1 was SCEA. It was a fantastic session with pretty much everybody contributing and asking questions.
