[INFO] Http11Protocol - -Initializing Coyote HTTP/1.1 on port 8080
Starting service Tomcat-Standalone
Apache Tomcat/4.1.12
[INFO] Http11Protocol - -Starting Coyote HTTP/1.1 on port 8080
[INFO] ChannelSocket - -JK2: ajp13 listening on tcp port 8009
[INFO] JkMain - -Jk running ID=0 time=0/60 config=C:\Tomcat4.1\conf\jk2.propert
but when i type http://localhost:8080 in the browser nothing appers on it.

Try out the following options:
1) Disable the proxy setting if you have set up Tomcat in your office PC on a network... Tools-->Internet Options-->Connections-->LAN settings
2)Clear browser cache (Internet Explorer--> Tools-->Internet Options-->Delete Files
3) Go to the DOS prompt / Command window (type CMD in the Start-->Run window). Type "ipconfig". It will give you IP address of your machine. Then try the url as http://youripaddress:8080
4) Check out logs of Tomcat for any errors... Logs can be found at C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.10\logs, check out the latest date-time stamp files.
5) Hope you have not deleted or removed the default index file of Tomcat from the location: C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.10\webapps/ROOT/index.html

Have u looked at the log files
<Your_Tomcat>/logs/*.txt ?
Have u done
netstat -a in your command prompt
to see if 8080 is listening?
I think it is.
How about accessing other webapp?
http://localhost:8080/examples
??
It should show a directory browsing.
How about view source to see if the html codes are sent to your browser??
Or try another browser other than the one u are using.
