Why JSP cannot use SWING?

applet runs on client machine - i.e. on the computer that you are using rather than on the server "on the internet". Output of JSP is usually textual - i.e. HTML - an applet is an actual program like Open Office or GIMP (MS Word and Paintshop if you prefer) so it can use you video capabilities directly.
it only appears that your applet is running on the internet but actually it download onto your computer and runs there. In JSPs, they get a chance to render the page of html (text) and then once theyve done that, they have no idea of what you do with that content. they cannot respond to mouse and keyboard events, etc etc
you probably need to look up a abook on how java works on the internet because it would then all make sense
