I'm planning to give the SCJWCD exam and today I came to know the fact that there is come thing called Expiry for the certifications from SUN ( too bad )

I got certified in SCJP2 in May 2000 ( too old ), I'm not sure what is the expiry on it?,
My question and concern is, Am I eligible to take SCJWCD if my SCJP2 cert is in expired status??
Please help me with some comments on this
Thanks,
AVNUS

Perhaps the only way you can find out is to call Sun people, I think Sun Education has a 1-800 number listed.

i think you should be fine. because the new expiration policy only affects the ones got after 09/01/2002.

You mean any Sun certs got before 9/1/02 won't subject to expiry rule?

I think you are okay on taking the test. Below is what the Sun site says about their certifications and expirations. An interesting tidbit is in the second paragraph... they can retire tests AND titles... I wonder how long it is before they retire SCJP2, V1.2... I took my SCJP on August 30, 2002, that was close!!
"Unless otherwise stated, and beginning with all Sun Certification exams taken after September 1, 2002, certification offerings from Sun are valid for two (2) years from the date of certification. The certification date will appear on both a certificate and an identification card with the applicable certification title. The identification card will also include an expiration date, on which an IT professional's Sun certification status expires.
Sun may maintain multiple versions of any certification exam or Sun Certified title to meet varying global demand for title versions and to offer IT professionals flexible certification options. Sun reserves the right to retire specific Sun certification exams or titles for any reason and at any time. Sun's recertification policy and program are subject to change without notice."

I called up Sun today and the representative said that one would be still eligible for scwcd exam even if the SCJP has expired.

It seems like 2 years is a bit short of the Sun certs - but it is an awfully short time for a major certification like SCJD or SCEA to be valid. Those certs require projects and follow up exams.
I'm working on my SCWCD, then the SCJD, maybe the SCEA later... but with the work required I don't believe I'll be looking at upgrading them after two years.
I would like to have a life someday
