Hi Guys,
There is never any substantial activity in this forum, can it be boosted somewhoe. I know while preparing for SCJP exam the SCJP forum was extremely useful but here there are rarely any questions and discussions.

Agree, I don't know why. Maybe the exam is way much easier than SCJP that everyone seems to understand everything. I'm in the last chapter of the book (study kit) and feel like memory is gonna play a lot when taking the exam. Much more different than SCJP...

Hello Faisal -
The level of interaction is a direct result of the number of people interested in taking the exam. It appears not to be very high.
The usual boosts to a forum include the promotion of a new book or some change in the industry that bears directly on this product. The overwhelming majority of people interested in certification aim at the SCJP, and it tapers off greatly after that, so the relative quiet of this forum isn't too surprising. When the exam changes as it will sometime next year, we'll probably see a big jump in usage.
I'm not sure what an artificial boosting -- whatever that means -- is a good thing. Creating activity is order to get activity seems self-fulfilling and pointless.

Thanks Guys for coming back on that and Michael I actually fully agree with you that it will be pointless to discuss for the sake of a discussion. Its just that comparatively speaking I tend to find more activity and discussion on say the JDiscuss SCWCD forum but I think the direct reason for that is the discussion tends to centre around questions from JWebPlus.
Having said that I think most peole who want to know details of Servlets and JSP tend to use those two forums which are excellent and very active indeed.

Hey Faisal -
I'll tell you what -- Bert and I, and I believe Kathy Sierra as well, are all on tap to help write questions for the next version of the SCWCD exam. We also hope to coax Bryan Basham, one of Sun Education's developers, here once in a while to gather feedback and maybe give us a peek at what's to come. If there's one place to keep your eye on for the future -- at least where this exam is concerned -- you'll find no better space.
Bert and I are both committed to helping JavaRanchers get thinking properly to do well on the exam. (We're probably each committed to selling a third-party book on the subject, too, but I don't want to speak too far out of turn )
You won't get a single damn answer from the new test out of us, but you just might find the best possible strategies for preparation and if you're not careful, you might find yourself becoming a better web component developer for whom passing the exam is an important but non-stressful event.
Good enough to pique your interest?

The new version will probably be out early next year. There will *probably* be a beta, and that will probably happen late this year. The new version is significantly revised from the current version, it's not just a few little nits.

Faisal -
As for livening things up a bit, Michael and I are in secret negotiations to add random dancing girls (or guys, based on your profile), to the threads in this forum.
Hope that helps!
- Bert
p.s. If that doesn't do it, I think that as the new exam approaches we'll see some excitement around here!

Bert, the dancing girls or guys won't do it but i guess its the thought that counts
I think definately the ideas that Michael has put forward are very good indeed. If questions are being raised and we discuss them here that will definately help us all to prepare.
Bert, I am planning to do my SCWCD exam in a couple of weeks, should I go ahead and do it or wait for the new one (I guess no harm in doing both).
FINALLY -> what kind of percentage should be getting in the JavaRanch mock exams to be secure a good %age in the real exam.

Hi,
I am planning to give SCWCD, should i give it right now or should i wait for the new version. i.e. will the certifactes given through present exam become obsolete (in terms of market value) once the new version of exam is launched. Or should i appear right now as this version in some what easy to pass.
Plz guide

Sun's book for SCWCD wasn't really a winner was it, pesimists would suggest a slightly different syllabus gives them a chance of banging out another head first book and reclaiming the market ?
I'm a bit tight as I'm one of the many on the dole.
Additionally will the new SCWCD appear globally or just in America at first. SCBCD doesn't seem to have appeared here in the colonies yet.

Tony,
Head First series are not by Sun, they are from O'Reilley so ot sure what the grudge is from your end. In terms of the change in the exam, well there have been changes in the spec of new versions of JSP and Servlets, so presumably they need to be covered.
Bert can comment on its availability etc, since I haven't a clue.

I thought you were in England. You are confusing me with that Colonies talk
I asked my local Australian Sun rep yesterday when I could purchase a voucher for SCBCD, and she said that "anything America can sell we can sell" although she also warned me to check with Prometric that they could supply the exam.
So you might be able to do the SCBCD exam even if the web site for your local Sun division hasn't got it listed yet. Check with your local Sun education division.
Regards, Andrew

Tony, Faisal, et.al. -
J2EE 1.4 is still beta. When it is released it will include Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0. Those new versions represent significant changes to the existing version. We have heard that the new exam might cover up to 40% new content.
So whether to wait or not is an interesting question. The exam is probably still 6 months out. How soon will 1.4 be commonly adopted? Sun offers a somewhat less expensive upgrade exam for SCJP, perhaps they will for SCWCD, but who knows?
I can easily imagine that given an individual's situation, a compelling argument can be made in either direction.
As for the books, Head First is not associated with Sun Press books, but then Sun Press books are less associated with Sun than you might imagine. We believe that the new specs will be popular, and that the certifications will be too.

Bert,
Thanks for your insight on the matter, I have decided to go ahead with the exam in September. I feel I am ready and don't mind doing th upgrade or new exam when it comes to it.
Thanks for your advice.
