Hi I am a Java certified Professional and want to appear for SCWCD..
I have come to know about new SCWCD (1.4) to be released in January 2004.
I have also come across something called Beta exams, coupans for which are probably distibuted for free.
--> How can i get my hands on one.
--> Also does Beta exam hold more or less value.
Thanx

I'm not sure how people think about Beta is... What I'm sure is that those who pass the beta-test will get the same certification as others. As u might know, beta-tester can take 5 hours long for over 150 questions and additional comments on each may be filled...
As for me, I think beta-testers are some kinda exam reviewers... In my own opinion, beta-tests are harder than the real one. Since the real one is final and built upon the comments, results and feedback from the beta, the real one would be fair and hopefully easier...
Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for prompt reply...
Have a bit of doubt
Is thins new SCWCD certification actually going to be of 5 hrs as comapred to 90 minutes duration of current version.
Also are they planning to change
** Exam Type -- Multiple choice, short answer, and drag and drop
** Cost -- 150 USD
** Number of questions -- 59

The beta is not available for everyone , it is restrcited to certyain number of candidates. So you will not find any info in the sun site but once the exam goes live (probably in March) you will fine the exam listed in the Sun site.

Can we buy a voucher for the beta and take the exam?
Isn't the pass percentage usually higher for beta exams?

Here is what I know about beta exams (as I learned with SCBCD):

- The beta is free of charge, but that means not it has no price.
- It will have a ton of questions for a long time to answer (150+ questions, 5hs). That's an estimative based on Bert's comments ()this thread
- The REAL exam will be a lot shorter in both time and number of questions (still not final, 60 question in 90 minutes as I was last informed).
- Passing the beta is equal to passing the real exam (in terms of certificate).
- Evelyn Cartagena (from Sun) is the responsible for the Beta testers, and she already told us she'll post at JavaRanch when the time for the testers arrive. evelyn dot cartagena AT sun dot com for further details directly w/ her.
I hope that helped.
Regards,
Gus

this is supposed to be a surprise, but it smells like a tiny ad:
