I would like to say that if the creators of the new exam would like to have a fruitful and valuable feedback from beta test takers then we better get some direction in preparation and examples!
I have printed and highlighted all the posts from the exam creators that had hints for the BETA exam and followed them in my preparation. But at this point they are no longer sufficient.
All the info provided so far was helpful only to a certain point in my preparation, but as the exam draws near I drill down to details and specifics and would like new information on preparation!
1. What do you mean by "TLD tag trivia"?
Please clarify: less tag trivia (there still is some, but we have eliminated all TLD tag trivia, still some on web.xml)
2. Are JSTL questions aimed at testing our knowledge of syntax (in addition to language constructs)?
3. What are the questions on JSTL are like?
4. What are the questions on TAG FILES are like?
5. Could you please provide some examples and mock questions?
Thank you very much in advance!
Sincerely,
Seid

Hello Seid,

Please understand that the "creators of the new exam" do not frequently watch these fora. It is only Bert, Kathy, and myself (less frequently) that provide JavaRanch with any useful information. Being one of the creators, I also know that most of my feedback from the Beta will come from the comments that the Beta participant write as they take the exam; not from JavaRanch.
  • What do you mean by "TLD tag trivia"?

  • This means that you will not be asked questions like "Which TLD tag is used to name the tag?" However, there are some such question on the web.xml deployment descriptor.
  • Are JSTL questions aimed at testing our knowledge of syntax (in addition to language constructs)?

  • Yes, there are questions on the knowledge of the names and structure of the 'core' JSTL tags (only 'core', not 'sql', 'fmt', or 'xml').
  • What are the questions on TAG FILES are like?

  • I don't remember.
  • Could you please provide some examples and mock questions?

  • See Bert's recent post; it has some mock questions.
  • Filters

  • Yes, there are questions on filters. Some show code and ask you to describe what it does. There are filter mapping questions.

    Dear Bryan,
Thank you very much for your reply. It is very helpful.
I would like to tell you that I did not mean to sound impolite or rude to you or any of the exam creators. What I was trying to say is that if the creators of Beta would like to have an informed comment on each question from Beta takers during exam (not on JavaRanch) then we badly need more information. If it were not for the comments and feedback which Beta takers provide during the Beta exam then there would be no Beta at all. So if the only purpose of Beta is to get feedback from us then I am sure the creators of the exam would appreciate a knowledgeable and informed comment. And so for the knowledgeable comment we needed more guidance as was promised to be given to us around the time I posted. (Please note that I posted this message some time ago, on January 12).
I only wanted to emphasize the fact that we do need to have more information on Beta and we need to have it early enough as was promised, which we now do.
Please excuse me if I sounded rude to you - I have great respect for the work you have done towards Beta exam and I had no such intention!
I hope this explains my words in the first post of this thread.
    Thank you very much!
    Seid
