Request for the SCWCD book:

Because we all are waiting for the book why cant you provide us a softcopy of book to read online for a while atleast a month.Waiting for this book I even Read HFEJB and completed my SCBCD today. It was an excellent book.So If possible Provide the book for all of us online, atleast just for reading not for downloading for a month.Later next month when we get the hardcopy of the Book then we can have a final reading of the book.

I want to write the exam only after I read Head First servlets &JSP book.

Thanx a lot in advance.

The HFS book turned out to be really HUGE - if you count the intro and the index, etc. (which we do because we wrote them ), it's almost 900 pages. So we're still trying to repair our brain cells, and in a couple of days we WILL post some sample mocks and topics from the book...

Hope that'll help 'til the book is on the shelves

That's great! Will the book be released by O'Reilly by the end of August? Thanks.
+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I too would appreciate an update on when we can expect to order this book from Amazon. Thanks!
+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I think 2-3 weeks, and I'll be checking the status in the next few days - so be sure that when we have more definite news we'll post it here first.

Amazon is currently saying 13th August which is new for them. Im expecting it to fail again though!

Fingers crossed

Now the time is changed to Aug. 16 on Amazon.

Hi,
Where is everyone seeing the "exact" date for publication on Amazon? I see only the month. Also, I preordered it July 20 and, in checking the delivery estimate, there is not a date of August 13 or 16 specified. Just curious.

Thanks.
+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
The estimated delivery dates are not updated when the Book's pages are updated (poo system design). If you go onto the book's page:

Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596005407/026-1700269-7938017

Says Not yet published but; lower down Product Details says 13th Aug

Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596005407/102-6628445-7226566
Says: not yet been released and then in Product Details says:
Publisher: O'Reilly; 1 edition (July 2004)

Basically they dont know whats going on. Amazon keep moving the goal posts to keep people thinking their orders are going to be soon. It's not Amazon's fault though because a) they dont know when itll be published b) they arent going to waste time when they have the book because they want your money!

Just sit tight. Im expecting the UKs 13th to fail - but who knows! Other than Oreilly

Just for a little more info: Amazon.de says 31st Aug
Amazon.jp says: 2004/10/30 - i think
Amazon.fr: 30 juillet 2004 - nice!

Bascially - they dont know - altho technically they are different companies to cover data protection acts.

All the best

Hi guys!

A couple of things;

- I'd guess 8/25 at Amazon - once again, O'Reilly is really cranking to get the book out the door, the delays were our fault (well, mostly mine  ), but the good news is you'll be getting an extra 150 pages of stuff for your book buying dollars

- We should have a surprise for you very soon...

Bert,

Is the SCWCD test as difficult as the SCJP or about the same?

Your upcoming HFS book is intented to be a study guide for the SCWCD test?

Thanks

Check out: http://training.sun.com/US/certification/java/index.html
There is HF EJB designed for SCBCD
HF JSP and Servlets for SCWCD

Just to confirm what Tom said,

HF Servlets has two goals;

1 - provide a strong, generic foundation for servlets and JSPs (i.e. when you're done, you should have a really solid, working knowledge of the technologies).

2 - prepare you for the SCWCD, which, in our opinion just might be the toughest of the Sun Java certifications.

The book should be available in 2 weeks!

Hey Bert,

Thanks for keeping us updated. There is nothing wrong with delaying the release of the book, quality is paramount which is why your books are so popular.

I hope you guys are going on vacation after its completed! Have a frosty mug on me.

Can I hear that again You know what Sean, the reason for your satisfaction is

SCBCD 1.3 ( taking it 8/20/04 @ 2pm )

Since you are currently busy with your SCBCD prepearation and you think the said 2 weeks of wait are perfect match for you get started for SCWCD after you write SCBCD on 8/20/04
But oh please, think about those who are waiting for this book for more than last 3 months ( I should say mor than 100 days).
Every morning, when I wake up the very first thing I would do (after opening my eyes ) check if the release date has been changed once again.
So, please don't look at things only to suit you and please think about all other poor ranchers around you.

IMHO, if you can not make it on time don't tell me any thing worng If I knew that realease date is gonna prolong more than 3 months I would have definitely gone other resources and hopefully would have passed exam so far. I wish you could imagine the furstration of waiting and not being clear if you should leave this option and go to other resources.

Let us pray that the release date is not extended once agin and the book is shipped by 8/25 and let us pray that our prayers be answered and Once again let us pray that book is shipped on 8/25

Hi Alfred,

I understand your frustration. I think many of us share some of your frustrations too. But I don't its reasonable to take it for granted that the authors owe it to us to come out with a book for SCWCD & have it ready for us to study & score in the test. Basically, they don't owe us anything.

There're other resources available too (as can be found in this forum). The specifications, for example. The beta testers did not have the luxury of the book too.

Yep, many of us were hoping to see the book asap & another delay may cause us further disappointment & frustrations. But as Bert had said, the delay would see an increase of pages & thats a plus to us.

Don't forget, we've a choice to wait or don't.

We're here to learn & help each other. So let's be nice to each other

Hi Cheng I absolutely agree with you, but let me borrow a few sentences not the whole paragraph from
Max Habibi's reply from this thread
Once again, I am just borrowing ONLY these sentences not the whole paragraph

Max Habibi wrote
You might consider a more straightforward approach. Lay your cards on the table, and tell people.
By and large, engineers are straightforward people.

So, if I knew that book is gonna be so late, I would have definitely not waited If its gonna take longer, tell me that and you are done and I have a clear vision. Now whether I should wait or not its my own choice.

My apologies if I ever violated rule. But its really frustrating to wait for 3 months Believe me or not.

Hi Alfred,

No worries.

Study hard & hope to hear good news from you soon

Cheers!

I just started another thread in this forum with updated release info.

I wanted to respond to those people who feel angry that the book is late. First off, we're really sorry. I do want to say however that we were never misleading you about the release dates. This is our 4th book, and our experience has always been that once we're down to the last hundred pages or so we wrap it up quickly!

In this case, two things happened;

1 - the last hundred pages turned into 200 pages

2 - the last 200 pages turned out to be MUCH trickier than we thought!

Back in March and April we honestly thought there would be no problem being done in early June, in time for JavaOne. We just got fooled

Anyway, we weren't stringing anyone along. I imagine that some of you have been involved in software projects in which that last 10% just kept causing trouble and delays. We're sorry for any inconvenience and we hope you enjoy the book

Bert

I agree whole-heartedly. My last 10% is killing me now.

All Guys who are waiting for HFServlets Book--

" The fruit of our waiting will be very sweet result".We all are sure that the book will get released,so one more bible for us for servlets and jsps.Let us wait for the "time" book is getting released.

Please dont get angry Guys,I felt very sad when Bert Bates was telling so many sorry's to everyones comment. It happens with everyone of us on the release date of our projects, some where somethings go wrong.

Please let us wait,by gods grace it will be out soon.Let all of us not get hurted checking out daily when the book is getting released or let us not hurt there feelings who are in a rush of releasing the book.

Surely the book will be in our hands, may be not today but surely tomorrow.

So Bert Bates Please give the exact date ASAP,so that if we cant wait we will try to find other solution or we will try to change the exam date.
Thanking you for all your patience..

Here's a link with pretty precise dates, which I think are REALLY SOLID - bottom line, Amazon orders should be shipping in 7-10 days...
