When I called the Barnes and Noble, (located in Carmel Mountain; San Diego), today, they stated that O'Reilly pulled it out of the warehouse.

What is the best way to get this book? Amazon or O'Reilly's web site?

When is it going to be in mass circulation?

We have no idea what that means... but O'Reilly and Barnes and Noble have a special promotion for the book in September, so perhaps B&N is holding the books in some way to make sure they have what they need for stores in September.

Anyway, O'Reilly has tracked all of the books and they should be in mass circulation by this weekend. They're simply moving their way through various warehouse/distribution systems. We've been told that Barnes and Noble actually has priority this time.

Unfortunately, most stores do not really know the status until they actually physically *see* it, and that should be just another day or two.

We're so sorry for the delays! But O'Reilly confirmed that all the books have shipped out to all the various distributors, so you should see books in most places by Friday.

Sorry!

I got mine at my Local (Eau Claire, WI) Borders store today. They had it in the back, it had not been shelved yet, it was also the only copy they got.

Hello all. This is my first post on JavaRanch. I've been following the threads on the release of HF Servlets & JSP for the past week and have some advice for those desperate to obtain a copy any time soon: forget B&N!! Two days ago (8/30) a friendly (-8 i'm not being sarcastic, she was very friendly 8-) local b&n phone answerer told me it would definately be in sometime this week. However, after checking the b&n site this afternoon I noticed the status had changed from "Not Released" to "Temporarily Out of Stock". I promptly called my local b&n and was told that the three copies the store was supposed get were on back-order status In a last ditch effort i called a local booksamillion store and they had one copy left Soooo, my advice is: check ALL your local bookstores.

Tobin

btw:Booksamillion page shows a status of "In Stock"

oh.....
I think in Asia Pacific country(China, Taiwan, Singapore, HK....etc) will sell HFS as fast as November 2004 in local book store!
So I think at that time, we only buy book and go to have SCWCD1.3 exam!
Then after HFS release, we will need to take upgrade exam (310-082).....

Get the certificate on hand is better than JUST WAITING!
GO to take SCWCD1.3(310-080) then go the take SCWCD1.4(310-082)upgrade!

Hi Fire Fox,

Instead of waiting for the book to arrive at your local bookstore, order from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, or Bookpool.com & have it flown to you. You could still take your SCWCD 1.4. No need to wait till November.

Besides, by taking SCWCD 1.3 and then the upgrade exam, you're spending more money.

Lastly, your name is not in keeping with our naming policy here at the ranch. Please change your display name to an appropriate name as shown in the policy.

Cheers!

Hi Kitty. You should be aware tho that B&N is showing the same book with the title "Head First SCWCD". This might have to do with the special b&n promotion Kathy mentioned in another post. Just look for the cute girl with glasses on the cover

good luck,
tobin

You're not breaking any rules. If I don't get mine soon, I'm going to see if someone can find a copy for ME!

Oh yeah, if you see "Head First SCWCD" instead of "Head First Servlets & JSP", that's because the original *working title* was "Head First SCWCD", which we later changed. It's the same book. If you see the blond girl with glasses (or you see any of our names on it), it's the same book, and there's only one version. You may also see a very large difference in page counts, depending on which book site you're on--you might see 650 pages or up to 900 pages, but again, it is all the same book. The lower page count was from our earlier *bad* estimates.

cheers,
Kathy

I have to say I have never awaited a book like I have this one. Certainly not a programming book! It's like Harry Potter for geeks!

I have to say I am not dissapointed. It is even better then the first two Head First titles and I'm only on chapter 2.

O'Reilly has it listed in the upper left corner of their home page now (where they introduce the brand new offerings): http://oreilly.com/ Can't get more official than that. No, I don't work for O'Reilly but I've been an avid fan of their books since I picked up a copy of "sed & awk", drawn by the "cute" slender lorises (lori?) on the cover of a tech book, off a coworker's desk in 1990.....

ask someone in India to buy it for you and send it to you via mail...Faster and Cheap....

Only catch -- U gotta know someone in India,
so go ahead and ask any of the good ol' ranchers who would be willing to help,

I m getting my book thru my sister who is flying tomorrow to the USA

Cost Indian Rupees 550 = US $ 11.89
add shipping to that(wouldnt be much for far-east countries from India)
and you've got a gr8 deal !!!

Hi "Fire Fox",

Maybe you didn't notice our Naming Policy when you registered. Could you please change your displayed name to meet it? You can change it here. Thank you in advance.

Hi Sal,

I have to say I have never awaited a book like I have this one. Certainly not a programming book!

Same for me! The company I'm working for buys books all days, so each time a package comes in and I'm at the office, I must check it myself! (Although it's really not my usual job.)

It's like Harry Potter for geeks! I have to say I am not disappointed. It is even better then the first two
Head First titles and I'm only on chapter 2.

It's a real pleasure to read such things as I've read the two first ones (Head First Java and Head First EJB) with such a pleasure...

Best regards,

Phil.

If you go to amazon.com and look for Head First JSP you will find a couple of stores that are now selling the book new and have shipping within 2 days.

I switched my order from Amazon.com to B&N late Sunday night. Yesterday I received an email saying that my order has shipped.

B&N is still advertising "Usually ships within 2-3 days." so I'd just go there.

Amazon has two stores that are listing the title as in, and will ship in 2-5 days. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/offer-listing/0596005407/ref=dp_pb_a//103-9093114-5899863?condition=all
for more info...
