Hi
I wanted to know if real world applications are developed wit Tomcat as a server or is it mainly aimed at learning the j2ee technology?
What are its limitations compared to Websphere , JBoss and the likes..
Thanks in advance

Tomcat is just a webserver where as JBoss and Websphere and Weblogic provides Application server that can deploy J2ee applications.
In my previous work place, they were using tomcat. The disadvantage is that we had to implement security, connection pooling, transaction control all by coding. If we use weblogic, websphere all these come without much coding.
I heard lot of people using JBoss application server as it is the only free app server which can deploy enterprise applications.
Hope this helps..

I was also wondering this.

How about Tomcat used with the full Apache web-server ? Is this a commercially viable option ? Does it still leave the developer to code security, transaction control etc ?

Thanks.

hi guys ,

i have a problem on what to use ? shud i use tomcat or weblogic ,websphere etc..
well i have once used tomcat ..where u have to deploy manually ? & now i have websphere .. in which deploying & changes in web.xml is all done by websphere itself ..
i'm new to WCD .. & i'm have to still start preparing for SCWCD .. i still dont know which one to use ... what i feel is webshpere is for fast application developers ... but tomcat is a pain ..it just frustrates u .. but u have to know every lil changes u have to make ur application to work ...
i'm so confused .. i need a solution guys ..
guys out there pls post ur suggestion ...

I would recommend Tomcat and a simple editor (I use TextPad) Because other fancy tools hide the details which you are tested on exam. I guess everone here would agree with this very important decision.
