Which of these is worth doing now. I know the 310-080 is being withdrawn in december. I have the book scwcd for 080 by dashmukh. I've used it as a reference book all along.

Whats new in th 081 exam

The book you have is a great book for the original exam - it is what I used. However, if I were getting ready to take the exam now, I would choose the current exam. My reasoning would be that I would rather have a more current certification.

There are some differences in the objectives - i.e. some topics are in the new exam that would not be covered in your book (JSTL, etc. ... I don't know the specifics). Just check out the differences in the objectives out on the Sun site.

If money is not an issue, I would suggest getting the Head First book and taking the new exam.

I am reading through the Head First book for fun ( ) but do not plan to spend the money to upgrade at this time. The book is great!

Good luck!

i think a lot depends on the J2EE level of the app server you work with. we use WebSphere and although only the just-out version 6 is 1.4, and we are on 5, i think i'd rather have the knowledge how to exploit 6 so i can recommend an upgrade for example.

I use Weblogic 8.1 which is J2EE 1.3 but I reckon I'll probably go for the higher exam (181).

Do you know if Pro JSP 3rd edition covers enough as I bought that for the updated jsp/ servlet levels. I know JSTL is in the exam but I'm not sure what else has changed...

Hi,
The Differences b/w 080-081 are the following
1.EL (Expression Language Introduced)
2.Simple Tags (Apart from the classic tags which are still supported)
3.Reusable JSP Fragments (Tag Files)
4.Some new directives (variable,attribute)
5.Functions (helps in resusing existing java code)
6.Filters (now can be applied on include and forwarded resources)
7.jstl 1.1

The HEad First Servlets and JSP is a great book,
The Pro JSp 3rd edition is also a good book , but many typos and mistakes
Hope this helps

In fact, there is another alternatives, if you got SCWCD Exam Study Kit on hand already.

SCWCD Exam Study Kit covers all exam areas for Servlets part. For JSP part, you may read Hans's Java Server Page 3rd edition. I used these 2 books to prepare for my SCWCD 1.4 Beta exam.
