Ming,

This is actually a book not for beginner who wants to learn the basics of JSP and Servlets. Rather it has ready made 'cooked' solution to recurring problems in JSP and Servlets professional development. So it will give you a high level picture of technology but its empahsis is on provide ready made solutions. So I am not very much sure that this is going to much of a help for anyone preparing SCWCD. However, same publishers and our very freindly authors Bert and Kathy have produced a book called "Head First Servlets and JSP". This is directly aimed at preparation for 1.4 version of this exam.

Hope it would have helped!
