Certification doesn't hurt.

But more importantly you are laying a sound foundation for the subject matter that you plan to be certified in.

You should be more familiar with the terminology so you should be able to follow a discussion about the subject and contribute to the discussion. This includes printed articles too.

You should be more familiar with the classes and methods available to you, and how to use them. Hence, you should become a better developer.

And this is just the beginning. If you correctly lay the foundation and to me certification does this, then you can easily build upon your knowledge base.

Experience doesnt mean everything. Somebody can say the have 2 years Servlet&Jsp experience, but meanwhile they are doing it all wrong, they only came to work on mondays and thursdays, and lets the senior developer do anything that was harder then a method call.

Experience various between people. People learn at differnt rates. Somebody with 1 year experience can be better than a person with 2 years.

Certification is a set standard that is the same for everyone. It proves ur employer can trust u when u say u know servlets and JSP, and that they can count on u to get the job done.
