Passing without HF Servlets and JSP?

Hi!

I'm new to this forum, but I've been reading the topics since my SCJP.

I'm wondering if it's easy to pass the exam without the HFS book. I have the Manning book, and also a lot of notes (Mikalai, etc) and mock exams.

I have also purchased the Whizlabs software, and in my first attempt I got 68%, without covering all the topics yet.

Is the HFS really necessary? (I live in Brazil, and the book will cost too much for me).

I am from Brazil too and i am wordering do the exam without the HFS&JSP.
The great advantage of this book is that you learn more easy.
I would like seeing it to evaluate better.
Of this way i will can tell if is really necessary read this book.
I want know too.

I may not be the right person to answer this, as I have a copy of HF book with me

I think it is possible to pass the exam without actually using the HF book.
But you need to make sure you cover all the objectives thoroughly. A lot of people have done this before, for the beta exam. You may have to refer to other people's notes and mock exams as much as possible. Also read all the posts regularly here at the ranch to get as much as knowledge from other people's experience.

The advantage of the HF book is that all objectives for the exam are covered in one single book. You also get a free mock exam at the end to test your exam preparation. Moreover the people who developed the exam wrote this book!.....
These writers have written best-selling books before.So the HF book is definitely the easy way to pass the exam, even though it might take a month or possibly more to pass the exam.(I am excluding the Candidates here who live, eat and sleep with Servlets 2.4 and JSP 2.0 in their daily life)

This new exam is tough--much tougher than the previous version of the SCWCD. The authors of Head First Servlets and JSP know: they created it. (Not that it EVER occurred to them that if they made the exam really hard you'd have to buy a study guide to pass it.) The least they could do is give you a stimulating, fun way to pass the thing. If you're one of the thousands who used Head First EJB to pass the SCWCD exam, you know what to expect!

I agree that a good book makes your life easy while preparing. But that can not be the end of road. What matters when you go to exam is how much you prepared and not from which book.

HF book was never there and thousands passed the earlier version of this exam.

I prepared with Manning book initially..but for the 1.4 version, I bought the HFS book and read the extra topics & few others and did the exam.
