Hello fellow JAVARANCHers ,

I'm currently preparing for the SCWCD 1.4 exam.

I'm always getting that the "user" attribute is "null" when I try the exercise in HFSJ on pages 468 - 469.

I keyed in all of the code exactly from the book.

The only exception was that I had to create the "userName" attribute (as the book stated) as follows just before the mine:advice tag:

<% pageContext.setAttribute("userName",request.getParameter("userName")); %>

I even tried changing the user="$userName" EL to a string and still the user attribute is null coming into the AdvisorTagHandler POJ

Any ideas ?

Please let me know.

Thanks. Take care.

Also:

I invoke the JSP as follows:
JSP-name plus the query-string of: ?userName=some-user-name

Nothing was wrong with the code; rather Tomcat 5.0 just had to be recycled.
