Just got back from taking my exam, so here's my story while it's still fresh...

After using Kathy and Bert's excellent SCJP study guide to pass the programmer exam (95% - thanks guys!), I thought i'd stick with the same authors and buy the HFSJ book.

At first I disliked the book - the style didn't agree with me, I found the content confusing and I struggled to even finish it. But, on second reading, somehow everything seemed to fall into place. Perhaps I learned more on the first pass than I realised!

The exercises throughout the book are really helpful, and as usual the end-of-chapter questions and the mock exam proved invaluable preparation for the real thing.

I have a few questions regarding coverage (you won't get 100% from this book alone), and make sure you download the errata, but I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone wishing to take the SCWCD exam.

Regarding the "exam = hfsj mock + 20ish%" equation that seems to hold for most people, well, it held for me too. I did the mock yesterday morning and got 67%, then I revised the areas i felt weakest in, redid the mock last night and passed the exam today with 92%.

Next stop SCBCD!

Congratulations.
it is nice to see someone who uses all the concepts in the book. hope you get to use most of the stuff on the exam.

very good score.
whats next.

I am taking SCJD, though it is different from the web, but it seems worth it.

A Very Good Score...

Can you suggest me What book should I start with for SCWCD and where are the Mock exams available for that.
I've just completed SCJP [with a poor score-65% only.I did it in one month because I thought I've to rush up to take SCWCD immedieately due to some official reasons].

Hence your reponse regarding the book for SCWCD and the mock exams will be much helpful to me.
Thanks again

I only used HFSJ so I can't really comment on the other resources that are available (e.g. other books and mock exams). All I can say is that HFSJ worked for me :-)

I'm sure glad that he's gone. Now I can read this tiny ad in peace!
