what is a container callback and an inline method?

I dont understand this terminology!
Can anyone please clarify?

Callback methods are those methods which are called by the container before doing particular action , For example ejbCreate() this method will be called by container before it will create the instance of that ejb . Means contained gives the programmer the chance to do some preliminary work before the action performed by container. We can also think as container intimate the programmer that it is going to do this action . I hope it is clear.
