Can somebody clear something up for me. I don't really understand at a conceptual level what the diffences are between a custom tag ie Simple or classic and a tag file.

Also I have read that a simple tag cannot have scriplets in its body and can be defined as having body-content scriptless!!! This seems a bit of a contradiction.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,

Put simply tag files contain jsp, that is they are jsp's. Tags, as in custom tags, are Java classes that impemlent a pre defined set of methods. Therefore in a custom tag you have much more freedom to do what you want, as all you are doing is writing Java, where as in tag files you are limited to the jsp syntax.

HTH
