Hi all,

I only got about 50% on the captioned exam. I found that the exam is much diffiuclt then I expect. Now I don't have confidence in passing the exam. Apart from the HFSJ, is there any book someone can recommend such that I can learn more before the exam?

Thanks
David

Hi David,

Try the Sun J2EE 1.4 tutorial here its free and contains all you need. Also there are lots of links here that may help you out. I would suggest that if you have read HSFJ, then reread the parts you found tough, look at the areas you got wrong in the final coffee cram exam, and go back and revise them. If you still find you don't understand then post questions here. Someone is bound to know and be able to help you out.

As for books I would encourage you NOT to purchase SCWCD Exam Study Kit published by Manning. There are lots and lots of people who have found it contradictory and completely inadequate.
Marty Hall and Larry Brown have a good book 'Core Servlets and Java Server Pages', published by Prentice Hall, but unfortunately only volume 1 is out in print at this point and you really would need both volume 1 and volume 2.

Hi David,

I for my part do only stick to the HFSJ book. I've my exam next monday and haven't done HFSJ's final mock exam yet

Try to find out your weak areas and read again the appropriate section from HFSJ.

So, from my point of view, concerning the preparation, I recommend NOT to follow more than one path but to stay with HFSJ and this forum . There are always very nice people like Matt here around who like to help.

Regards,
Darya

Hi Mat and Darya,

I have very little experience in using Servlet and JSP, so I want to study this exam in order to enrich my knowledge. When I am reading HFSJ, I can understand the topics. However, in the Final Mock Exam, I found that many questions are new to me since HFSJ does not cover these questions in details in the previous chapters. So I want to know any book that can help me to know more about the Exam....

Hi David,

If you are just looking for exam style questions, try the Whizlabs exam simulator or an equivalent. I have no experience with the Whizlabs simulator or any others but several people have suggested that the Whizlabs simulator is quite good. Maybe someone else could comment further on it thought.

Is the Whizlabs exam simulator worth the money? are the questions similar to those in the real exam?

There is a free book on Servlets and JSPs that you can download from here. I have not really read it, so I can't vouch for it but may be worth looking at.

Hi, I can not recommend the Whizlabs simulator for SCWCD completely, at least not the version I have (the simulator for SCBCD is good though...). The drag-and-drop questions tell you, you are wrong, even though you made the right choices. I find some of the questions confusing.
After taking some of the exams, I decided to study with HFSJ and the JSP, Servlet and JSTL specifications.
Also you might want to look at www.j2eecertificate.com
