A servlet has three names

1. Client know URL Name ==> <url-pattern>
2. Deployer-known secret internal name ==> <servlet-name>
3. Developer-known Actual File Name ==> <servlet-class>

Question:

Is it possible to call the servlet from client browser using Values available from <servlet-class> element and <servlet-name> element

I read from a tutorial which has explained it is possible. When I tried with an example it didn't work.

Some one please explain this.

You can call servlets by their servlet-name using proprietary mechanisms. For example, Tomcat 4 somewhen had an option to call servlets by their names, with /servlets/ prefix in the url
