I have SCWCD Exam Study Kit 1st ed. I know this book is for SCWCD 1.3.
Could I use SCWCD Exam Kit (1st ed.) to study for SCWCD 1.4 exam?
What are topics don't covered in the book? Are there materials I can use for study the missing topics?

Hi Kengkaj,

the 1st edition covers the old version of SCWCD (310-80) and hence I don't recommend it for the current exam preparation. There are areas from the old exam which are not covered in the new exam anymore and in addition there are new exam topics for the new exam.

Examples for new exam topics are: JSTL, EL, Simple Tag, Tag File, Design Patterns
Examples for old exam topics are: DTD, Design Patterns

So all in all I would say that even the 1st edition does still cover at least 50% of the current exam.

For my own preparation I used 95% HFSJ and 5% SCWCD Exam Study Kit 1st edition. The good thing with the Study Kit is that it comes with a PDF version which makes it much more tangible than the HFSJ.

I hope the Head First people wake up one day and provide also an PDF version with their book .

Regards,
Darya
