Using EL in JSP

Hello All,
Pls can someone help me out on isELIgnored or el-ignored.
From my understanding, el is enabled by default. But when i used it
on my jsp page, it wasn't recongnised on till i addded
<%@ page isELIgnored="false" %>
i'm using tomcat 5. is it from the container or
what. Can someone explain ?

Hi,

Tomcat 5 as opposed to Tomcat 5.5 uses the 2.3 version of the xml

2.3 from Tomcat 5


2.4 from Tomcat 5.5


EL is ignored by default if you set the web app to use the 2.3 specification. but not if you use the 2.4 specification, so check the web.xml file for your web app to see which version of the specification you are using, my guess is 2.3

so, with 2.4 from Tomcat 5.5, EL is enabled by default?
