Here's another little discrepancy.

The HFSJ book says that servlets having the same load-on-startup value wil be loaded and initialized in the order in which they are declared in the DD but the spec says that the container is free to load servlets with the same load-on-startup in any order.

Also, the book says that load-on-startup should be "greater than zero" for the servlet to be loaded on startup but the spec includes zero.

Which one should we learn for the exam?

Hi Sathish,
you are correct. I already posted this in the same forum yesterday.

Web.xml Doubts

according to spec, we can have load-on-startup value as zero and container is free to load in anyorder when load-on-startup value maches.

I dont remember the page number, but it is in chapter - 11.

Hi,

The definative source in my mind is the spec.

I will add that I never came across a question that asked specifically about the load-on-startup value and wanted an understanding as deep as what happens when you have 2 servlets both with a load-on-startup value of 0. So don't stress to much about it.

Can I suggest that you post the errors that you found to Bert, Kathy or Bryan so that the errata can be updated and future editions of the book can be changed.

Sorry,

should have said I never came across a question in the exam that asked specifically about the load-on-startup value and wanted an understanding as deep as what happens when you have 2 servlets both with a load-on-startup value of 0. So don't stress to much about it.

Hi Mat,
Could you please tell me about the bold part...

Hi,

all I meant was when I took the SCWCD exam, there was no questions that asked specifically about the load-on-startup value and wanted an understanding as deep as what happens when you have 2 servlets both with a load-on-startup value of 0. In fact I don't recall any question involving the load-on-startup tag at all. There may have been one but if there was a question on it then it was not involving a very deep understanding.

Hi Mat,
Why be Sorry,
And why bold in the exam?

I understand now, well at least I think I do. The 'sorry' was just cos I stuffed up and added the reply before I had read it, to make sure that I had said what I was meant to. The bolded section was the bit I missed out that I meant to put in. That was all.
