I am buying HFSJ.

I have no experience I am SCJP1.4.
What would you recommend just learning from HFSJ and not to go for certificate as I have no exp. or prepare and learn with certification as ultimate objective.

Please tell me books, preparation method, time required, any other suggestions, any other information is welcome.

i kinda doubt about what have you typed above, but i know what you trying to say.

no experience, also can learn from HFSJ. and time required would be 1 half months.

if you wanna learn one by one, then go to buy Servlet book(any 1), and JSP book(any 1), finally read thru the HFSJ once, and the time required would be about 2 months.

i use 1 month for my SCWCD. and going for test on 8/10/05. and i have no experience at all with Servlet and JSP.

other member here might have clue about which book to use, sorry i no clue.

HF Servlets & JSP (or "HF SCWCD" as it is titled now) is the way to go.
Avoid the 2nd edition Study Kit from Manning - while the first edition was great for the old exam, the update was incomplete.

Also get theses specification - consult them to clarify any confusion:
  • Servlet API 2.4 Spec
  • JSP 2.0 Spec
  • Standard Tag Library Spec

  • Tomcat includes the Servlet JavaDocs which you should keep handy for reference.

Also remember that this is a J2EE 1.4 exam. So it may be better to install J2SE 1.4 rather than JSE 1.5 and get a 5.0.x (5.0.28) version of tomcat rather that the latest 5.5.x (5.5.9) version (which requires JSE 1.5 afaik).

In response to you query in another thread:

Because of personal preference I chose to do the SCWCD before the SCBCD even though some claim that the SCWCD is more difficult that the SCBCD. That claim is more than likely based on the fact that the SCWCD covers 3 specifications rather than just 1. I found the Servlet topics more interesting than the EJB topics - now mind you the JSP, JSTL and custom tags made up for it. In my opinion its easier to shift your thinking from the plain JVM to the Web Container and then to the EJB container - the EJB container seems more complicated and your interactions with it seem more "distant" from the "real" action.
