I'm new to web component (completly new with minus zero experience), I also have some experience with EJB(JMS,Session bean)and lots of java programming experience plus some XML and (SOAP experience via HTTP), the thing is very strange on my CV is to have experience with something like SOAP and JAXP but no JSP.
Now I decide to get SCWCD certification, can I start to take some mock exam and prepare myself for SCWCD exam (I read HFSJ and SCWCD guide).
I mean do you suggest me to get this exam without work experience? Is it not so strange to have certification without experience?
When I get certification in something I said ok now I'm professional in that subject, but I scared to get SCWCD and feel that I'm not.
thank you for your further comments.

I imagine it's certainly do-able, but I would hardly recommend it. It's far better (not to mention easier) to prepare if you have some work experience, or at least a little time under your belt working with the related technologies.

I guess the important question is the matter of your goal in getting the cert is what your end-goal is for attaining it (as in, are you looking to get a job doing something related to it, or is it just for personal eddification, or for something else?).

Many people in these forums have an overblown expectation of what these certifications represent. You have some work ahead of you - use HFSJ to understand whats going on in the specifications. If you proceed in an ethical manner you will demonstrate a certain amount of competence in the technology upon passing the exam; your other development experience should allow you to turn some of that into practice fairly quickly.
Understand however that Web presentation technologies are quite varied. The exam covers only Servlets, JSP, and JSTL.
Struts, JavaServer Faces, Velocity, etc. are not addressed. And HTML, DHTML and JavaScript aren't covered either.

Sometimes you need certification to further your experience. It is certainly possible to get certified without experience but harder, I am certified in alot of Java stuff I have no experience in, for the last three years I have been working only in C#.

Theodore, I want to take it for increasing my knowledge and give me ability to work in web environment fluently not for job because I have good job.

Peer, I know it don't cover struts,JSF and... I also have some few experience with asp.net (in last 3 years with beta version) I think Html and JScript are not an important issue and I also know Html.

Dibbo, interesting

After I finish my OCP exams I started to prepare for java certification but after SCJP I find it is not useable like Oracle certification because with oracle you discover everything and your knowledge increase 10 time than before. In programing knowledge is also an important factor but experience is more important.
so dear 3 ranchers please said me your idea base on what I explain from my self get it or not?

Given this statement I would say "go for it" - provided you don't mind the extra work (When going the HFSJ + Spec route it isn't that bad).
The problem with learning the technology as you go is that you tend to learn only as much as you need - sometimes less. You may also end up re-inventing the wheel if you don't have "experienced" supervision. The SCWCD gives you an opportunity to understand the web container technology to a broader extent than you would by simply "doing it". However you may have to learn some material that you are not going to use - ever. I find the servlet side quite useful but it remains to be seen whether I'll ever use JSP/JSTL; however now I know that it exists and how it works, should I ever need it. Just realize that the SCWCD isn't an end in itself - it's just a "good and solid" beginning.
Look at the SCWCD as the final exam for working through HFSJ/specs. Once you've completed it you'll probably want to turn to something like Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages, Vol. 1: Core Technologies, Second Edition and Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages, Volume II for tasks you tend to run into in real projects.

Actually, you stated why a SCBCD 1.3 isn't useful to you personally - I was merely trying to point out that others (not you personally) may still find some value in it.

I think you are asking a lot. Compared with the SCJP exam, there is a lot to learn.

Why not get yourself a book like Beginning J2EE 1.4 (I think 1.5 is on its way). This has 5 chapters on JSP and Servlets, with several examples using both Tomcat and the J2EE server. You can then add to the examples with your own code. The book also goes into JDBC, EJB and web services, so makes a good introduction to the other J2EE certifications. I found a cheap copy of the 1.4 book on ebay.

A combination of coding and learning will stop you going off your head.
