I am working on the BeerAdvice example in HFSJ. I wrote the servlet but I am having trouble compiling it.

I am not able to type the whole thing in the commandline. I am having Windows XP.

This is what I am trying to type

C:\>javac -classpath C:\Tomcat\tomcatmain\common\lib\servlet-api.jar;classes;. -d C:\MyProjects\Beerv1\src\com\example\web\BeerSelect.java

I am unable to type beyond "\web". When I press any key, it just gives a beep.

Pls. help. I am very new to Servlets & JSP.

Hi Bala,

Instead giving the command from C promt go till the directory structure "C:\MyProjects\Beerv1" and then give the following command there:

C:\>javac -classpath C:\Tomcat\tomcatmain\common\lib\servlet-api.jar;classes;. -d src\com\example\web\BeerSelect.java

This will allow you to type the full path ,, hope this will help ,, or else some other expert will answer after me.

All the best.

Thanks Anand. I tried that but kept getting the message "Invalid directory". I changed the folder name and tried again and voila! it worked. Thanks again.

Never mind. I figured it out and my servlets are working fine.
