HFSJ cover all that will present in the SCWCD 1.4 exam or not?
If it does not, what topics are not covered, and what are resources for that topics.

HFSJ doesn't cover the following JSTL tags

1. <c ut>
2. <c:forTokens> and
3. <c:redirect>

I am preparing notes for them. It will take a couple of days for me to complete them. If you like to have a copy of it send your personal mail Id to me.

Could you post the note somewhere here instead of sending an e-mail?

I mean if you are willing to share it.

Hi Guys,

I gotta tell you that I don't think those tags are on the exam! I wouldn't bet my life, but I'd bet $100

It could be that we missed them, but before you spend a lot of time on those tags, you might want to ask on this forum if anyone got any questions about those tags.

hth,

Bert

I had noticed people telling they missed questions in the exam with-respect-to-JSTL. The only library covered for the exam in JSTL is "Core" Library. Which means the questions might have come from one of these three tags. But these tags are much easier when compared to c:set.

It could be that we missed them

beanName attribute of <jsp:useBean> standard Action tag is missing. You got to note this too Bert.

Thats impossible as the notes will be around 7 pages(Covering all three tags and explanation for every attribute with example).

Guy give me some time probably by Monday I can sent you.

You don't need someone elses notes. You can learn these tags yourself in about 30 minutes reading the spec.

HF does not cover:

- all of the tags which can be used inside a .tag file e.g. <jsp:invoke> and the other ones which i forget now.

Hi Again,

Just to clarify...I absolutely agree that not all of the JSTL tags are covered in HFSJ. The point is that we covered the ones that are on the exam This forum's purpose is to study for the SCWCD exam - there is another forum to discuss general Servlet and JSP. So I just want everybody who's studying for the exam to be able to focus only on those topics that are on the exam.

hth,

Bert

I am agree with Bates. My 'belief' is as firm as HF's obnoxious girl's 'suspect'.So everyone just concentrate on HF which is more than sufficient.
Thanx

Hi Kengkaj & other Ranchers,
Concepts of Servlets and JSP are like ocean.
Even if someone is going to write a book of 2000 pages, still you can find something missing. HFSJ is completely towards exam preparation and not for indepth knowledge of servlets and jsp.
For that one has to read specs and understand how they work, read other articles. More than that they need real real experience.
When I wrote scwcd exam, I felt like all questions are related to HFSJ directly or indirectly.
I wonder the way this thread has gone so long for just three tags, which are not exam. Also, one can read those tags and if intereste fmt, sql tags from sun's api or from articles in net.
Once Satheesh mentioned about dynamic-attributes that he got on exam(which is not there in HFSJ book). Bert posted about that immediately on JavaRanch scwcd forum. If one is going to prove that something that is on exam and
not covered in HFSJ book, Bert is there to provide material or examples to us.
Please make this forum discussion completely towards exam preparation.
Hope all understand me.

Hi guys! Fresh from the exam. In my experience the most often used in the questions tag from JSTL is <c:set>. Also I'd say that standard actions on the exam are not that simple as they might seem. Pay more attention to all the peculiarities of <jsp:setParameter>, all the different variants how it can be used.

Yes, and there are many questions on EL, or which have EL expressions as one of the answers. I was quite stressful about them because EL is not covered in much details in HF, but managed to get 100% for the EL, so perhaps this language is quite intuitive, even if you don't know it properly.
