what is the use of java bean

jsp :usebean
jsp : setproperty
jsp: getproperty

cant we do the thing without them

can we use custom tag in place of beans

Instead of jsp:setProperty you can use JSTL's c:set tag which does the same thing.

Yes if your project demands a custom implementation you can go for custom tags.
