Hello Saswata,

The SCJP exam is the entry point to all other Sun Java certifications. So, you have many choices and which you take next depends upon your interest in a specific technology.

So for example, if you are interested in web technologies, then SCWCD would be your next exam. If you are interested in EJB technology, then SCBCD. If web services, then SCJWSD. If Java ME (mobile edition), then SCMAD.

However, if you want to stretch your design muscles, I would recommend the SCJD (Java Developers) exam. This is an assignment based exam in which you will create an actual working (but small) application. I took the JDK v1.2 version of this exam several years ago and enjoyed it quite a lot. Be warned that this assignment is a significant investment in time; it took me almost 40 hours of work over about one month. [You are allowed one year to complete the assignment.]

Take a look at Sun's web site for more info:
Sun Java Certification

Cheers,
Bryan
